First, what are the innovative biodiversity financing models and how do they work in the Estonian context. Second, what benefits and risks do they bring to landowners, including practical steps and requirements for participation. Third, how international experiences (e.g., the United Kingdom’s BNG policy) could be adapted in Estonia. Finally, whom to turn to in Estonia and what opportunities can realistically be used for nature conservation and income generation.

We aim to encourage sustainable practices that foster the coexistence of nature conservation, agriculture, and forestry, and thus promote the Wildlife Estates Label in Europe. 

The WESEM training programme is designed to equip students and professionals in forestry and agriculture with the necessary skills to become advisors in sustainable and ethical land management.

The project supported by Interreg Estonia-Latvia helps to develop a tool that includes models and algorithms for assessing ecosystem services that support landowners on shore in the decision-making process.

The aim of the master’s thesis is to analyze the suitability of the Wildlife Estates label evaluation methodology in the Estonian context on the example of the Järvselja Training and Experimental Forestry District. Based on this work, the question whether the label is suitable for Estonian forestry can be answered. The strengths and weaknesses of the label are also highlighted. The WE label is compared to PEFC and FSC certificates to answer the question of why Estonian landowners should prefer the WE label to timber certificates. The motives for applying for the label and possible developments in the benefits of the label are also mapped.
